ADA / Braille Signs

ADA standards apply to permanent signs that identify rooms and spaces, such as restrooms, offices, conference rooms, exits, and stairwells. Suite and unit numbers, floor identifiers, and accessible route markers also need to comply. Temporary signs, directories, building names, and parking lot signs follow different rules. A compliant sign must have raised tactile characters, Grade 2 braille below the text, a non-glare finish, and high color contrast between the text and background. Mounting height (typically 48 to 60 inches to the baseline of the lowest tactile character) and placement on the latch side of the door also matter. Missing any of these elements can fail inspection.

We design ADA signs using your brand colors, fonts (for the visual layer), and finishes while keeping the tactile and braille elements fully compliant. Many of our ADA packages match the property's overall design language so the signs feel like part of the building, not an afterthought.

We most often use photopolymer for crisp tactile and braille elements, layered with acrylic, brushed aluminum, or wood-grain laminates for the visual finish. Photopolymer holds tactile detail far better than carved or appliqué methods. For outdoor or high-traffic locations, we add UV-resistant coatings and select materials that resist wear from repeated touch.
